Sample Preparation & Store Section

Crushing and sample preparation section

In this section, raw samples such as rocks and soils that are collected from the field are processed such that they can be directly analyzed in the conventional and trace elements laboratories. Any types of geological samples, collected from the fields are firstly brought in by the customers (Geologists or external clients) and registered the samples with code ID according to the nature and type of it.

The samples are crushed and made powder as per required for chemical analysis purposes using sampling technique and crushing machines like Jaw crusher, Roll crusher, and Pulverize for required mesh size.

The prepared samples are dispatched to the chemical laboratory for further analytical process.

Available Machines:

Jaw Crusher: The first crushed 5-inch size sample reduces to 2-2.5 inches smaller and is again fed in the small jaw crusher. The size of the collected sample from small jaw crusher is reduced to ≤ 1 inch in size.

             Jaw Crusher

Roll Crusher: Feed sample to crush ≤1 inch sample into the Roll crusher to attain the product of smaller piece of    2-3 mm chip grain in size.

                   Roll Crusher

Proceed to use sample preparation technique for making desired amount of sample (200 gm) and desired fine grain size (100 mesh) for Limestone sample.

Sample Preparation Technique:

1) Coning and quartering (Non-mechanical method)
2) Riffling (Divider) method

Coning and Quartering                                                                                                                                                 Riffle Splitter method

Pulverizer (Disc Mill): Shearing action on the material to be broken up 200 gm sample of 2-3 mm, makes the product of fine powder of 100 mesh size or 0.149 mm (required size) in 2-3 minutes for chemical analysis by this instrument.

    Laboratory Pulveriser (Disc Mill)

Siebtechnik (Vibratory Mill- ring mill): The centrifugal force acting in three grinding rings results extreme pressure and impact on the sample produce very fineness (up t0 200 mesh size).

Hard metallic like hematite sample can be fed.

   Vibratory ring mill

After three stages of crushing/grinding, prepared fine sample with labelled sample code number is dispatched to chemical laboratory section.
