भू–विज्ञान महाशाखा अन्तर्गत रहेको यस शाखाको मुख्य काम देशका विभिन्न भागहरुको भौगर्भिक नक्शा तयार गर्नु हो । यस शाखाले देशका विभिन्न भागहरुको भौगर्भिक नक्शा तयार गरेको छ । यस शाखाबाट प्रकाशित नक्शाहरुको आधारमा देशका विभिन्न क्षेत्रको भौतिक संरचना तथा विकास निर्माणका कार्यमा टेवा पुगेको छ । हाइड्रोपावर, बस्ती निर्माण, सुरुङ मार्ग तथा अन्य ईन्जिनियरिङ कार्यमा भौगर्भिक नक्शाको महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रहेको हुन्छ । भौगर्भिक नक्शाको आधारमा नै विभिन्न खनिज पदार्थको खोजतलास तथा अन्वेषणमा सहयोग पु¥याउनुको साथै सम्भावित जोखिमको पहिचान गर्न मदत पुग्दछ ।
यस शाखाका उद्देश्यहरु निम्न रहेका छन्।
1. नेपालका विभिन्न भागहरुको भौगर्भिक नक्शाङ्कन गर्नु ।
2. नेपालको भू–बैज्ञानिक अनुसन्धान गर्नु ।
3. भौगर्भिक सूचनाहरु प्रकाशित गर्नु ।
